Stop taking shortcuts

the shortcut is to stop looking for shortcuts (image source)

Setting and achieving goals requires time, work, and effort, not to mention other resources needed such as money for example.

So whenever we set out on such a journey, our lazy monkey mind is very often tempted to look for ways to work less and stay comfortable.

Seeking alternative routes, disguised as special techniques, strategies, or secret formulas to attain our goals quickly or easily, without putting in the needed time, work, effort, or resources. That’s what a shortcut means.

By experience, when searching for shortcuts you’re more likely to achieve your goal slower than without it.

Let me explain.

For example, my goal takes 1 year to achieve. Searching for shortcuts, I’d waste 2 months trying “alternative routes”, before getting back to my initial plan and doing the work, achieving the goal in 1 year, because shortcuts didn’t work.

It took me now 1 year and 2 months to achieve my objective instead of 1 year.

The wasted time, energy, and resources are the hidden cost of going after shortcuts that’ll lead you nowhere.

In conclusion, there isn’t any secret success formula, you have to work smart and put in the needed effort because shortcuts will only distract you from the real target.

Stay focused, stay consistent, because the more you’re in it, the luckier you’ll get.

By far, the ultimate shortcut is to not take any.
